Assessment of Genotoxic and Antigenotoxic Activity of Barbatimão (<i>Stryphnodendron adstringens</i>)

Avaliação da atividade genotóxica e antigenotóxica do barbatimão (Stryphnodendron adstringens)
O Barbatimão (Stryphnodendron adstringens) é uma planta medicinal encontrada no bioma Cerrado e apresenta importantes atividades farmacológicas tais como: anti-inflamatória, analgésica e cicatrizante. Neste estudo, o objetivo foi investigar a atividade genotóxica e antigenotóxica da solução aquosa do barbatimão (SAB). Foi realizado o teste do micronúcleo em medula óssea de 20 camundongos. Para obtenção da SAB foram utilizadas 30g da casca triturada em um litro de água, com uma concentração final de 30mg/mL. Os resultados demonstraram que a dose de 30 mg.ml-1 peso corporal da SAB apresentou diferença (p<0,05) na frequência de eritrócitos policromáticos micronucleados em comparação com o grupo controle negativo, evidenciando uma atividade genotóxica desta solução. No entanto, estes dados não são concludentes, sendo necessários outros experimentos para esclarecer os reais mecanismos de ação do barbatimão, juntamente com seus princípios ativos, a fim de que seu uso seguro seja estabelecido.
